Jarabacoa Dominican Republic
What we like best:
- The cool and peaceful nights.
- The joyful and festive atmosphere at the La Vega Carnival on every week-end in February
- Arepas, this typical dessert made of corn flour that you can buy on the road to Jabacoa.
- The amazing butterfly garden in the Rancho Baiguate.
Jarabacoa is the second largest municipality in the La Vega Province. It is a small town 700 meters above sea level in the heart of the Cordillera Central of the Dominican Republic.
The Jarabacoa aea is known as the Dominican Alps because of the presence of pine forests, which contrast with the tropical rain forests. Jarabacoa is the perfect eco-tourist playground. The nature lovers will have many outdoor activities to choose from: canyoning, rock climbing, horseback riding and trekking.
The Cordillera Central range is home to the highest mountain in the Caribbean islands, the Pico Duarte, Duarte’s Peak. The easiest access is from Jarabacoa and the hike up to the summit is an unforgettable trekking experience.
Hotels in Jarabacoa
The hotels around Jarabacoa are generally comfortable, somewhat rustic, traditional hotels but usually surrounded by superb nature, lush vegetation near rivers and waterfalls. There are no all-inclusive resorts in Jarabacoa but we can suggest full or half board formulas according to your needs.
