Samana Dominican Republic
What we like best:
- Fish in coconut sauce, a local recipe
- The small whale museum
- The traditional culture of former slaves who came from Philadelphia to settle here in 1821.
Santa Barbara de Samaná is the official name of the capital city of the Samanà Province. Located in the northeast of the country, on the southern coast of the Peninsula, Samanà is an easy drive from Santo Domingo thanks to the new Juan Pablo II highway, and is only a few minutes from Arroyo Barril airport. Samaná has a nice waterfront boulevard and harbor from which many boat tours head to the Haitises National Park and the whale sanctuary.
Hotels in Samana
Samanà has many accommodation options: all-inclusive resorts, but also luxurious villas and apartments for rent on the beach mostly on the outside of town on the coastal road to Las Galeras.
