Saona is an island part of National Park of the East. Its name comes from Miguel da Cuneo, a friend of Colon's from Savona, who was the first to spot it on one of Colon's journey.

The island is very famous for the natural beauty of its beaches and its amazingly crystal clear waters. On the island, you can explore a cave called Cotubanamá in memory of a Taino cacique who found refuge on the island.
