Dominican Carnival in Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic has one of the most authentic Carnivals in the Caribbean. In the island, the date coincides with the celebration of the anniversary of Dominican independence, in February. However, there are other regional carnivals, in conjunction with religious holidays.
The Carnival, even with his European and African influences, has a unique character, highlighting entirely Dominican roles, rooted to centuries-old traditions, such as the ¨diablos cojuelos¨, ¨Roba la Gallina¨, ¨El Rey Momo¨, etc.
The most popular carnival of the island is La Vega Carnival with its growing beginnings since the early 80´s. Vegan Carnival takes place in many of the streets of the town, every weekend of February, The streets are full of pavilions with festivals and activities representing each school.
